Back at square one, you begin to suspect that all these deaths are actually a deliberate punishment inflicted by the angels, jealous of ranking second by their Creator’s favour.

Your redemption instructor seems to confirm this when you hear his piercing laughter in the background. At the same time, it must be said that Dio’s presence in Paradise is an anomaly that has, without a shadow of a doubt, disrupted the entire three-world system. Having Dio alongside vulnerable souls is like giving Bakugo the chance to criticise Midoriya openly—after having insulted his classmate for no apparent reason, driven by frustration over not having a Quirk.

 

Speaking of the devil, Dio appears before your indignant soul—but this time, he has not one but two companions, including The World, which has materialised for no apparent reason. You surmise that Dio’s whims have enabled him to secure one of the boons granted by the elite of the angels—the archangels: Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, and Uriel.

 

Dio speaks up in a mocking tone:

“Another failure joins the long list that has dogged you since childhood. But I, Dio Brando, offer you one last chance to prove that you aren’t a lost cause. Knowing that staying in Japan works entirely against you—given the intense hatred the locals harbour for you, and I can hardly blame them—I have decided that a change of scenery would do you good.”

 

No matter where you end up, if the choice is Dio’s, you know in advance that the narcissist will ensure you experience hell on earth all over again.

 

Why would he miss such a joy?

 

And just as you feared, the antagonist hurls you far away from Japan—after making sure your new destination is three times more gruelling than your time in Naruto and My Hero Academia—leaving you longing for the madness of Team Itachi and the missteps of Todoroki’s father.

 

 

 

The place you were tossed like a piece of trash is so dilapidated that the world of Fist of the North Star seems as colourful as a magical girl anime by comparison. Without a second thought, you would a thousand times rather be a magical girl fighting evils in a skimpy outfit alongside your loyal girl friends than endure any longer the putrid stench of a decomposing body soaking in its own urine.

 

Between rotting corpses, staggering drunks, prostitutes plying their trade, looting of long-abandoned shops, and gang brawls, it is a scene of utter depravity.

But, of course, your mission couldn’t be ordinary. When Dio speaks of becoming Batman’s sidekick, he means it literally. In other words, it is up to you to choose which of the four Robins you will inhabit to purge Gotham of the evil plaguing it.

Like far too many children in fiction, Dick Grayson‘s childhood was not all sunshine and rainbows. Yet, it had started off well, promising a life filled with happiness for the young acrobat. That was, however, before he witnessed the death of his parents during a circus act, an event that left Grayson an orphan.

As he matures, Dick Grayson begins to appreciate the libertine spirit of his adoptive father and mentor, Bruce Wayne. It goes to show that walking alongside Bruce Wayne opens up not only vast career opportunities but also the chance to meet incredible women who make Grayson question their true nature.

Much like a Pokémon, Grayson undergoes the ultimate evolution: he trades in Robin’s colourful uniform for a form-fitting suit that reveals the hours of intense gym work spent toning his glutes and pecs, while the people of his city no longer know him as Robin, but as Nightwing.

 

Jason Todd: The Robin With a Rebellious Spirit

 

Here is another character with a traumatic childhood, though—unlike Grayson—Jason Todd chose a far less noble path… and we are referring here to his behaviour as an adult, the new man he becomes upon his rebirth.

Jason Todd is, in fact, a wayward orphan whose path eventually crosses Batman’s under rather amusing circumstances—at least, they are amusing unless you happen to be the superhero in question, returning from a mission where he’s properly thrashed some Gotham City thugs, only to discover that some wise guy has swiped your wheels.

But after a long lecture from Bruce Wayne—who learned Jason’s backstory and took pity on him—he rewards the boy by making him the second Robin. It just goes to show that Batman has no time to mope over Dick Grayson’s departure and quickly finds a replacement.

If only he had the power to see the future, he surely would have thought twice before turning Jason Todd into his sidekick.

Following in Dick Grayson’s footsteps, Tim Drake is an optimistic teenager who is sure to put a smile back on your face.

Far from the life of a thug—a path Jason Todd willingly chose—Tim Drake battles Gotham City’s depraved criminals with the same impunity as the original Robin. Mindful of his roots and his identity, he refrains from meting out his own brand of vigilante justice, even as he takes pleasure in putting a stop to the schemes of outlaws.

As you’ve likely guessed by now, Drake is another orphan taken in by Bruce Wayne; this has led him to a life of luxury—a taste of which many other children in Gotham City would love to experience, if only for a moment.

 

Alas, successfully piquing the wealthy billionaire’s curiosity is not an opportunity open to everyone.

 

Consequently, only a handful of orphans have had the honour of fighting alongside Batman, donning the Robin costume one after another. This opportunity fell to Tim Drake.

Unlike Dick Grayson—a man who, over the years, came to appreciate the perks of a playboy lifestyle—Tim Drake continues to uphold the legacy of our beloved Robin. In other words, Drake remains focused on the fight against evils, never allowing himself to be seduced by Harley Quinn‘s charms mid-mission or to lose sight of the line between good and bad.

However, due to a tragedy that—in its own way—bound him to a fate strikingly similar to Jason Todd’s, Tim Drake eventually found himself consumed by his demons. After all, it seems obvious that exposing pre-teens to a nation’s daily misery and worst calamities was bound to take a toll on their mental health.

 

 

 

 

Far from being immune to this grim reality, our third Robin, Tim Drake, was ultimately scarred by the trauma inflicted by the Joker and his ceaseless laughter.

 

Damian Wayne: The Heir of the Dark Knight

 

The worthy heir to Bruce Wayne… that is what some arrogantly proclaim, downplaying the family ties between the previous Robins and the billionaire.

 

Damian Wayne and Bruce Wayne are blood relatives—unlike Grayson, Todd, and Drake.

 

This is not the story of a boy who lost his parents at a young age and wallowed in self-pity before wandering the streets of Gotham City—driven by a thirst for vengeance following his parents’ untimely deaths—to impose his own brand of justice.

 

Does that mean Damian had an idyllic childhood?

 

You might be surprised to learn that Damian‘s childhood was no less intense than that of the previous Robins, even though he wasn’t forcibly torn away from his parents, Bruce Wayne and Talia, by criminals.

Damian is no ordinary child—and this has nothing to do with him being the son of Gotham’s wealthiest man, but rather with the fact that he is a “weapon.” Conceived by Ra’s al Ghul—leader of the notorious League of Assassins—Damian grew up under the watchful eye of his mother, Talia, who oversaw his training to ensure he would become the League’s finest assassin.

 

 

What if You Reincarnate In Black Butler or Earl Cain?

 

 

 

In his own way, Ra’s al Ghul shares a strong connection with the volatile personalities of both Damian Wayne and Jason Todd.

 

Fortunately, Damian never went down the criminal path that would have made him indistinguishable from a monster like the Joker, an unstable lawyer like Two-Face, or a deformed crook like The Penguin. Instead, Damian found a new home in Bruce Wayne’s mansion and, in time, would become the new Robin—Batman’s loyal partner in fighting Gotham City’s criminals.

However, the childhood Damian spent alongside other League of Shadows assassins left its mark on him, making him resemble Jason Todd in many ways. Both boys possess temperaments that are difficult to tame, and in both cases, Batman has to put in significant effort to work effectively with his sidekick during missions in Gotham. In this regard, Damian differs from the first Robin, Dick Grayson, who would go on to become his mentor.

Damian Wayne and Dick Grayson share one of the franchise’s most interesting relationships; watching them interact feels like witnessing the dynamic between an exceptionally patient, good-natured older brother and an antisocial younger brother who constantly corrects his elder to prove he is no longer a child.
